640,000 ppm - Quantifying Super‑Soluble Ginger Extract with FoodSense Generation 4

In this video, we demonstrate how to measure a ginger super‑soluble extract using the FoodSense Generation 4 system. The sample tested is a highly pungent, oily ginger distillate/extract, described as “super soluble,” and requires a modified preparation approach to ensure accurate results.

We walk step by step through the sample preparation, including an experimental pre‑dilution with 96% ethanol to help solubilise the oily matrix, followed by a high dilution into buffer. This approach highlights practical considerations when working with challenging, oil‑rich samples and explains how dilution factors are handled within the FoodSense app.

The video also shows:

  • Correct pipetting technique to avoid under‑reading due to oil retention

  • Vortexing and buffer dilution strategy

  • Sensor loading and app configuration

  • How the app flags samples that are too concentrated

  • Interpretation of raw data and ppm results for ginger

Despite a very high dilution, the sample still reads extremely strong, demonstrating both the intensity of the ginger extract and the sensitivity of the FoodSense Gen 4 ginger sensor.
